2007 Holiday House Tour

The Mahanoy & Mahantongo Historical & Preservation Society will hold its Christmas House Tour on Dec. 1st. 2007. The time for the tour starts at 11:00 AM and closes down at 6:00 PM. This years attractions include the Zeigler House and Library, The Home of Ernest & Barbara Leah, Zion Stone Valley Church, Aimee Lacasse Home, Robert & Leona Shaffer Home, and Hoffmans Outdoor Power & Repair.
The Zeigler House will be decorated by students of Line Mountain High School. The log house is a post-and-frame and best guess was built between 1840 and 1850.
The home of Ernie and Barbara Leah Home will be decorated with their collection of Christmas ornaments and ceramics. The fantastic array of ornate and extraordinary varieties of holiday mementoes have been collected for many years.
Zions Stone Valley Church, Dalmatia, will host a Gingerbread House contest. After viewing the house display take a walk through the Church and listen to the sounds and smells of Christmas.
The Lacasse home built in 1912 by Alvin Romberger has a painting depicting the house as it appeared when purchased in 1996. The painting was made by local artist Vaughn Miller, who resided in the house as a young boy. The house has been restored inside and out.
The Shaffer house will feature a Dickens Christmas village. Travel to a modern day amusement park and watch Santas Elves get ready for the big day.
Each year one business is selected to be on the tour. Hoffmans Outdoor Power & Repair, Halifax, will host the annual art show. Art work will be on display starting the Monday after Thanksgiving. There will be prizes given out for the show. There is an entrance fee of $3.00 per item entered in the show. There will also be paintings of old school houses from the Klingerstown area for bid during the show as well. The school house paintings were donated by Blaine Kerstetter (Meeting House School), Darlene Snyder (Linden School) and Elaine Schmick (Delb School).
